Looks Aren't Everything

Those new homes you've been considering might look good, but looks aren't everything. How can you be sure they were designed and built to be energy and resource efficient? How can you be sure they will feel comfortable all year round - not too cold in the winter or too warm in the summer? How can you be sure they will be safe and healthy with good indoor air quality? How can you be sure they will be durable?

Completed Projects

2003 BALA Entry

This home was designed and built for Skip and Margie Davies. Margie wanted an “Old” house. Skip wanted new construction. Hidden Springs was a perfect location for a new “Old” house that surprises guests with its unexpected interior.

The Plantation Style decorating combines the best of the “Old” house feel with being on vacation. The open first floor living area includes the Great Room, Dining Room, Nook with Wet Bar, and Kitchen with ample Walk-In Pantry accommodating the wine refrigerator and large collection of dishes for entertaining. The old-fashioned Sun Room expands the living area to take full advantage of surrounding views.

The living area was designed for entertaining with the interior focal point being the fireplace, flanked by built-in bookcases, a salt-water aquarium and an HDTV.

The Master Bath features a Walk-In Shower with multiple heads and body sprays with the luxury of a warm towel from a dryer an arms reach away.

The house also had to function as a Bed and Breakfast with the kitchen accommodating a cooking school. Upstairs, two bedrooms and a separate family room welcome guests. Large closets are split to accommodate window seats with storage.

They chose a foothills lot in Hidden Springs, a master planned community in the Dry Creek valley just north of Boise, Idaho that incorporates Traditional Neighborhood Design and includes over 800 acres of dedicated open space.

2003 Parade Of Homes Entry

Our 2003 Parade Home. The two-story Hayworth, a charming Craftsman styled home, is an incredible floor plan. Like all of Chuck Miller Construction's homes, the Hayworth is designed and built following the Building America Systems Engineering Approach to Homebuilding. That means it will use 30 – 50% less energy for heating and cooling. The base plan is 2,071 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The kitchen has an angular island that doubles as a snack bar. The breakfast nook is enclosed by windows, making meals feel alfresco. The open concept kitchen, nook, great room, and the dining room defined by impressive columns and beams offer ample space for quiet evenings at home or entertaining friends. The private study is furnished with an optional built-in desk. Upstairs, the master suite features a compartmentalized bath with an elegant tub and separate shower. The optional 422 square foot Bonus Room above the garage is perfect for a studio, playroom, or even another bedroom and bath. The two-car garage offers an area at the back for storage of a third car, bikes, mower, and sports equipment

Energy Value Housing Awards

Chuck Miller Construction, Inc. has been recognized by the NAHB Research Center as a leader in energy- and resource-efficient construction. As energy costs continue to rise, consumers are looking for companies to help them find ways to reduce their energy consumption. In direct response to their customers' concerns, many home builders have taken great strides to incorporate features that make homes more energy efficient, and have less of an impact on the surrounding environment. The Energy Value Housing Award (EVHA) honors builders who voluntarily integrate energy and resource efficiency into the design, construction, and marketing of their new homes. The program educates the home building community and the public about successful approaches to resource-efficient construction.

The EVHA judges have described the company as a “great builder that is building great homes from design through [homeowner] orientation.” The judges also noted that all of the company’s marketing materials, including the corporate website, www.chuckmillerconstruction.com, tout efficiency features, and portray the logos of the energy efficiency programs in which they participate. Additionally, all Chuck Miller Construction homes are built under the ENERGYSTAR and Building America program guidelines.

Chuck Miller Construction Inc.’s Energy Value Housing Awards include the 2004 EVHA Builder of the Year. As 2004 EVHA Builder of the Year, Chuck Miller Construction was selected as the company that best typifies energy value and reflects the goals of the award program.

Other EVHA Awards include: • 2002 Silver Winner Production Home/Cold Climate Category
• 2003 Silver Winner Production Home/Cold Climate Category
• 2004 Gold Winner Production Home/Cold Climate Category
• 2004 Silver Winner Custom Home/Cold Climate Category
• 2005 Honorable Mention Custom Home/Cold Climate Category.
• 2006 Honorable Mention Custom Home/Cold Climate Category.

The Energy Value Housing Awards are managed by the NAHB Research Center, and operated in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy through its National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
